Reunion 2010

On January 23, 2010 the 2nd annual GRRSF was held. It was AMAZING! We had about 60 dogs attending... Goldens, Golden Heart dogs and many of their "sisters and brothers."As you can see by the photos below, the dogs had a blast! Typical of Goldens...not one doggie altercation. As the video included says...It was Peace, Love and Goldens.

We had amazing Raffle prizes and amazing Silent Auction items. Lunch was as great as it was last year. It was provided by Corporate Caterers at an amazing price so that we could try and make some money for the dogs www.corpcaterers-NVIP.com .
Our hosts Laura & Joe opened up their home and their hearts to us. They did so much work. Laura made all the wonderful signs. Joe made the fencing....yes- MADE most of the fences. The Shriners donated all the fencing around the pond. A big thank you to them!

Carol Ann Sternlieb spent many, many hours making the beautiful quilt seen below. It was charming and obviously made with much love for the Rescue and their adopted Golden Golda. Thank you for the wonderful donation!

Artist, Mark Johnson donated one of his signed and numbered limited edition prints, below. It was titled "Saving The St. Lucie Estuary". Mark and his wife Lou have both adopted and fostered Goldens. Many thanks!

I want to acknowledge some of the many volunteers who worked tirelessly (and hard!):

Linda & Bill Davis: Bill provided the music and created and paid for the CD's of his music "Who Let The Dogs Out" Linda did the difficult job of taking and keeping track of the reservations and the orders for the calendars.
Sharon & Jeff D'Amato. They were at the reunion site at 7 am and didn't leave until 4:00pm. They never stopped working!
Dee, a really great friend of the rescue (she is the amazing lady who fosters all of our puppies, YIKES) put together and wrapped all the amazing raffle baskets. They looked GORGEOUS!
Of course, as always what would we have done without Carol and Lee Ann...our always present, always working duo!

At the Reunion we awarded the Dave Petrie Award (named for and the first receipient, Carol's late husband)to Nancy McDonald. Nancy is the creator and "keeper" of our amazing web site. Nancy lives in The Bahamas but is never out of reach for us. The job she has done for us is beyond description. She has done every bit of it without ever taking one penny from The Rescue There are no words to say thank you enough!!

Well, please enjoy the photos and video and remember, there will be a third Annual Reunion. Start checking the web site in October for information about the Reunion and the Rescue Calendar.

Here is a great reunion video from Eileen Pike

Joining us at the Reunion were Eileen and Chris Pike, the creators of the organization We Are The Cure. www.wearethecure.org This young couple lost two dogs to the lethal and devastating cancer Hemangiocarcoma. It is one of the most prevalent and deadly cancers and kills thousands of Goldens each year. They have adopted 2 Goldens from GRSF since they lost their dogs and also help by being foster parents.

Please start looking for raffle prizes for next year's reunion...donated gifts will certainly help! There was also a very special Silent Auction. Two of the really special prizes were donated by some very special people. Carol Ann Sternlieb spent many, many hours making the beautiful quilt seen in some photos. It was charming and obviously made with much love for the Rescue and their adopted Golden Golda.
